Daily Log: September 23-26, 1942

(Outside workers, lost and found)

SEPTEMBER 23 (1942)

500 ARRIVE — 500 evacuees arrived at Delta at 4 a.m.

SEPTEMBER 24

OUTSIDE WORKERS — Two Topaz youths left the city to become outside workers on a farm located a mile and a half from here.

FELONY CHARGE — A resident was held on a felony charge.

516 ARRIVE — 516 residents arrived as the last contingent of the first group from Tanforan.

SEPTEMBER 26

NO FISH — Two resident anglers outfitted with a light snack and a rod went south from Topaz to try their luck in a stream reported to “be an ideal fishing ground. After a long walk through the dust and the sagebrushes, they came to the stream which had dried during the summer.

SOCIAL DANCE — Topaz had its first social dance with 23 couples in attendance. In spite of the limited facilities, favorable comments were made.

LOST BOY — The lost and found department recorded the first living “item” when six-year-old Yoshikazu Uyeno lost his way home. Through the efforts of several persons, the little boy reached home safely.

BIRTH — Mrs. Aki Moriwaki, 19-8-C, gave birth to a baby girl in the Topaz Infirmary (Laundry #4).”
