This week’s Topaz Stories features stories of resettlement, both during and after the War.
Through letters received by Ruth Sasaki’s mother, Tomiko, “Venturing Out” provides a glimpse of Japanese Americans’ irrepressible sense of community in defiance of War Relocation Authority guidelines as they leave Topaz in search of new lives in new places.
Grace Mori Saito Tom recounts her family’s hardships after returning to the West Coast after the camps close, in “Resettlement.”
In “Kiyo’s Story,” Ruth Sasaki recounts some of her aunt’s and mother’s adventures outside camp during temporary leave.
