To celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month, we are excited to announce the launch of our website, topazstories.com!
To date, there are almost 40 contributors and over 60 stories related to Tanforan or Topaz, written or related by survivors or their descendants. We are launching with six stories in honor of Asian Pacific Heritage Month, and will subsequently publish three new stories at a time, two or three times a month, or at another frequency which we eventually determine to be doable for these aging, retired eyes, until we have shared all the stories.
But please note that the project is ongoing. If you or someone you know has a Topaz Story you would like to share with us, let us know on the Contact Us page.

Thank you Ruth!
These are wonderful…I can picture being there…see what our parents experienced. Born after the war,
I wrote a term paper describing the event for US History in high school as there was nothing about the relocation in our studies…my mom drew me the layout of the “camp”, and I included it in this term paper. She never forgot, she never expressed any resentment of the experience…quietly went on with life.
I admire them for what they experienced and shouldered with quiet grace, it seems. They all continue to teach us.
Thank you, Mary. We appreciated your words about your mom. Please reach out to us if you want to put together a piece about her. We will continue to collect stories as long as there are stories out there.
