A Message From the Heart: Six Tanforan Poems

Barakku ni yaya ochitsukite kyō hitohi kutsushita nado wo tsugite sugoshinu
A row of Japanese characters (kanji), translated in the text.

In the barracks
it is usually rather quiet
but for today at least
busily we pass the time
mending socks and such.
A typical interior scene in one of the barrack apartments at this center (Manzanar), 6/30/1942. Note the cloth partition which lends a small amount of privacy. Dorothea Lange, WRA. NARA 538136.
