Duke Ellington, Ben Takeshita, Topaz Japanese Library carved wooden sign

In this week’s Topaz Stories, Amy Eto writes about her love of the music of Duke Ellington in “Dancing to Duke.”

In “A Star is Born,” Ben Takeshita recalls his venture into dramatics during his days in Topaz. There was one catch–the plays were in Japanese, which he didn’t speak very well.

In our third story, “The Topaz Japanese Library,” Setsuko Asano Ogami writes of her father, Shichinosuke Asano, and his efforts to give Japanese-speaking incarcerees something to read.

Technical note: We will generally try to release new stories on Saturday; This means that there may be a window of time (about 30 minutes) on Friday evenings after 9 pm when a certain amount of maintenance is going on. If you see any unlinked content, or links that appear to be broken, please be patient. Thank you!
