May 22, 2021: Forced Removal, part 2

More Topaz Stories this week about the forced removal of Japanese Americans from their homes in the San Francisco Bay Area in the spring of 1942.

Kimi Kodani Hill shares the story behind “Harold’s Excuse,” an artifact discovered in the files of Willard Junior High School in Berkeley. 

Grace Mori Saito Tom recalls her arrival at Tanforan Racetrack (a “temporary” detention center), in “Oakland to Tanforan.” 

“Separation” is Ruth Hayashi’s heartbreaking account of leaving her father behind as she and her mother are incarcerated, first in Tanforan, then Topaz.
