Nov. 1, 2022: Field trip to the Topaz Stories Exhibit

One hundred and five third- and fourth-graders from Oakridge Elementary in Salt Lake City visited the Utah State Capitol today to see the Topaz Stories Exhibit.

105 schoolchildren, with parents and teachers, pose on the interior Capitol steps. State Senator Jani Iwamoto and State Representative Elizabeth Weight are in the front row, far right. Sitting in front are organizers Max Chang and Brad Westwood.

The field trip was organized by Max Chang, who made sure the visit would be fun by creating a 10-question scavenger hunt that could be answered by viewing the stories and artifacts in the exhibit. (Three students answered all 10 questions correctly!)

10 questions about the Topaz Stories Exhibit, with answers filled in by one of the students.

Max had the support of the class teachers, Oakridge principal, parent chaperones, Brad Westwood, Utah State Senator Jani Iwamoto and State Representative Elizabeth Weight.

About 25 adults (parents, teachers) pose in the Capitol rotunda.

It’s wonderful to see such a creative collaboration come together to enjoy our exhibit before it closes on December 31. Thanks to all who participated!
