
George Furuichi was two years old when his family arrived in Topaz, Utah from Berkeley, CA via temporary detention in Tanforan Assembly Center in San Bruno, CA. He was too young to remember Tanforan.
Amid the swirling sand of his new surroundings, there were occasional flashes of familiarity. Some of his early memories of Topaz revolve around people his family knew from their old Berkeley neighborhood, such as Mrs. Tsuru Yamashiro and Mrs. Yae (then Katayanagi) Wada.
And although he did not know it at the time, the birth of a baby girl in Topaz would have a huge impact on his later life–the birth of his future wife, Judy.
