As the Utah legislature is poised to vote on the passage of S.B. 58, which designates  February 19 as an annual Day of Remembrance observing the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII, Lara Jones of KRCL invited Max and Ruth to talk about the Topaz Stories Exhibit currently on view at the Utah State Capitol Building. The bill is sponsored by Utah State Senator Jani Iwamoto.

Many thanks to Lara and Nick for giving us this chance to connect our work with the legislation to raise public awareness in Utah of the WWII Japanese American incarceration. The annual reminder is a critical way to ensure that the lessons taught by our mass incarceration and violation of our civil rights will not be buried with the passage of time, but will be remembered, and help prevent the same thing from happening to other groups.
