January 15, 2022: Exhibit Installation

We are excited to share photos from the installation of the Topaz Stories Exhibit in the Utah State Capitol, which took place on Wednesday through Friday this past week.

The Hirabayashis

This photogenic trio is the Hirabayashi family (Jonathan, Susan, and Tyler), who did the installation with the assistance of Fletcher Booth of the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Logistical support was provided by Stephanie Angelides, Capitol curator, and Brad Westwood of the Utah Department of Culture and Community Engagement. Jonathan is the exhibit designer, and his son, Tyler, did most of the printing (and much of the installation) of the panels. We are incredibly grateful to them for making the long drive to Salt Lake City despite cold weather and health hazards.

Looking good

The exhibit runs from January 18-December 31, 2022 and features 31 stories by Topaz survivors or their descendants. The writers whose works appear in this exhibit are:

Ann Tamaki Dion, Amy Eto, Norman Hayashi, Tamesuke Harada, Taneyuki Dan Harada, Ruth Hayashi, Jonathan Hirabayashi, Nancy Hirabayashi, Dan Hirano, Tracy Katayanagi Hui, Roy Iwata, David Izu, Jeanie Kashima, Tom Kawakami, Yoneo Kawakita, Kerrily Kitano, Meri Mitsuyoshi, Gail Hoshiyama Nanbu, Setsuko Asano Ogami, Ruth Sasaki, Ben Takeshita, Yae Wada, Ken Yamashita, Jon Yatabe, Yae Kami Yedlosky, and Carol Yoshimoto.

We regret that we could not share all 70 stories in our collection (to date). The Capitol was just not big enough! (LOL) But you can read them here!
